How to improve your toddler's reading skills?

Create opportunities

·         Reading aloud to children is the best way to get them interested in reading. Before long they will grow to love stories and books. Eventually they will want to read on their own.

·         Choose books about everyday experiences and feelings. Your child will identify with the characters as they dress, eat, visit, nap, and play.

·         Read when your baby is rested and you‘re both in a good mood. If your child gets restless, it‘s okay to stop for now.

Make it fun

·         Recite rhymes, sing songs, and make mistakes! Pause to let your toddler finish a phrase or chant a refrain. Once your toddler is familiar with the rhyme or pattern, make mistakes on purpose and get caught.

·         Make faces and sounds to bring the story to life. Books with flaps or different textures to touch keep hands busy.

·         Don't expect your toddler to sit still for a book. Several short sessions (of 10 minutes each) may be better than one long session (of 30 minutes). Encourage play that involves naming, describing, and communicating

·         The most important thing is that your baby sees you enjoy reading. Have fun with it and your baby will, too!

·         Read favorite stories again and again. Read stories that have repetitive parts and encourage your child to join in.

Let him express himself

·         Toddlers need to move, so don't worry. They may be moving, but they are listening.
