Ask your baby's doctor about vitamin D supplements for the baby, especially if you're breast-feeding ||During the day, don't try to catch up on chores while the baby sleeps. Lie down and rest ||Children who gain weight quickly during their first six months are more likely to be obese or at risk of obesity by age 3 ||After the first hectic weeks, babies take longer naps at predictable times. And you'll become a much better time manager ||Never pick up your infant by the hands or wrists as this can put stress on the elbows. Lifting under the armpits is the safest way ||Don't let your baby nap in the car seat after you're home as a substitute for crib since it's harder for young babies to breathe in that position. ||Don’t forget to put labels with date and time on your expressed milk bottles to check expiry dates ||Proper weight gain is the sign that your baby is having enough milk. Not crying and not comparing with other kids ||Until your baby is 6 months old, he'll get all the hydration he needs from breast milk or formula, even in hot weather ||When your infant is carried, he should be oriented toward the carrying adult ||
Newborn Care


The basic advice after delivery is to concentrate on breast feeding. It should be exclusive breast feeding, given on demand without restriction. If your full term newborn sleeps for more than 4 hours, you should wake him/her for feeding.

 

Another important advice is to watch for neonatal jaundice i.e. the yellowish discoloration of the skin and eyes of your child. This happens normally in 50% of newborns. However, when it does happen it is wise to measure the level of the jaundice (bilirubin level) to make sure it is within the physiologic levels and follow it if necessary. To help reducing the level of the jaundice or to prevent it even, we advice frequent breast feeds + exposure of the baby to the sun in the early morning or late afternoon.
