The most important thing on growth curves is how your baby grows over time. If he's small but growing at the appropriate rate, there's usually no cause for concern. ||Alternate the first breast you offer at each feed ||To keep the eye free of infection, massage inner lower corner of the eye twice daily to empty it of old fluids ||Proper weight gain is the sign that your baby is having enough milk. Not crying and not comparing with other kids ||During growth spurts - around 6 weeks after birth — your newborn might want to be fed more often ||Use each feeding as an opportunity to build your newborn's sense of security, trust and comfort. ||Never tie a pacifier to your child’s crib or around your child’s neck or hand. This could cause serious injury or even death ||Try to develop passions outside of work. Don't define yourself by your job, and have the courage to be imperfect. ||The AAP recommends sponge baths until the umbilical cord stump falls off — which might take up to three weeks ||It’s never too early to read for your child ||
Is sun exposure important?
Yes. Sun exposure is essential for almost every child.  The advantages of exposure to the sun include reduction of the neonatal jaundice, formation of vitamin D inside your child's body (the vitamin that prevents rickets (bowing of bones) ). In addition, it gives your child a healthier skin and a richer exposure to the environment.
The hours needed are at least two hours per week of at least head exposure, if the weather is too cold. This is direct sunlight exposure not through glass.
The advisable hours are from sun rise to 10am, and 3 hours before the sunset. Exposure beyond these hours is much less beneficial and might be harmful (related to the ozone layer decay).

The alternative for parents who do not have the facility or time for this, and surprisingly these are many, is vitamin D supplementation. This supplementation should start around the first month of life. The recommended daily dose for your child ranges from 200 to 800 international units. Ask your doctor or call 2356 for more details.
