Breastfeeding: a new vaccine for the mothers against heart problems

Beside breastfeeding has many clear advantages to the nursed baby, everyday new evidence based studies say it also protects the nursing mothers from many diseases.

It was recently evident that although pregnancy increases women's risk of heart disease, stroke & Diabetes, Breastfeeding cancels out this risk

Doctors have collected the data of about 140000 post menopausal women who had given birth and breastfed their babies & it was found that the longer the women nursed babies, the less likely they were to develop Diabetes, heart disease or stroke.

This fact encouraged the doctors to say "Any breastfeeding is good but more was better"

The mother who breast fed for one or more month is less likely to have diabetes, high blood pressure or high cholesterol level while if she breast fed for more than 6 months during life time she'll be less likely to have a heart attack or stroke.

The interesting finding also that there still seems to be an important association between breastfeeding and long-term health effects.

As years after weaning their children, women who breastfeed for at least three months have fewer risk factors for diabetes and heart disease, including smaller waist circumference.

A smaller waist may be a clue to how breastfeeding reduces a woman's risk of heart disease and stroke.

It's clear that pregnancy increases a woman's belly fat, regardless of how much a woman weighted before pregnancy.

Belly fat accumulation is probably the adverse effect of pregnancy that has the most important long-term health consequences for women

Belly fat is a known risk factor for the metabolic syndrome which gives an idea about risk factors that indicate high risk for diabetes and heart disease.

This belly fat may be significantly reduced by breastfeeding.

The American Academy of Pediatrics now recommends that women breastfeed for the sake of their children's health but it may be time to recommend breastfeeding for women's own health.
