Reflux is common in newborns. Most babies outgrow reflux between the time they are 1 and 2 years old ||Don't forget to watch what you say and do around your child: Imitation is one of the ways toddlers learn socially acceptable behavior. ||Colostrum is rich with all what baby needs for the first 2-3 days till the breast begins to produce milk ||Wash your hands thoroughly and frequently. It’s not the type of soap that prevents the spread of bacteria and viruses; it’s how you wash your hands. ||Whenever possible, don't get involved in your kids' clash. Step in only if there's a danger of physical harm. ||Don't allow your pet on the couch while you are holding baby. This makes dogs bigger and taller in relation to your infant and may encourage aggression. ||Use each feeding as an opportunity to build your newborn's sense of security, trust and comfort. ||Your baby should have 4-6 wet diapers per day. This is a great way to monitor if they're getting enough milk ||For protecting young children during summer months, apply sunscreen at least 30 minutes before going outside ||Ask your baby's doctor about vitamin D supplements for the baby, especially if you're breast-feeding ||

Routine care of the newborn
1. Weighing the baby.
2. Initiation of breast feeding ASAP.
3. Minimize handling to decrease the risk of infection.
4. Prophylactic antibiotic eye drops to prevent common eye infection of the newborn.
5. Care of the cord by daily painting with 70% alcohol till it falls within 7- 14 days.
Warning signs in the newborn
1. Weak or no feeding and suckling.
2. Persistent vomiting.
3. Bleeding.
4. Yellowish discoloration of the skin and mucous membranes.
5. Difficulty in breathing with rapid respiration or bluish discoloration of the skin.
6. Recurrent choking or coughing with feeding.
7. Not passing stool or urine.
8. Weak activity.
9. Hypo or hyperthermia.
