During growth spurts - around 6 weeks after birth — your newborn might want to be fed more often ||Your baby should have 4-6 wet diapers per day. This is a great way to monitor if they're getting enough milk ||During the day, don't try to catch up on chores while the baby sleeps. Lie down and rest ||It’s never too early to read for your child ||If you have trouble emptying your breast, apply warm compresses to the breast or take a warm shower before breast-feeding ||As a new mommy, sleep when your baby sleeps. Silence your phone and ignore the dishes in the sink ||Make sure your baby wears a hat if she will be in a cold environment ||Use each feeding as an opportunity to build your newborn's sense of security, trust and comfort. ||Do not postpone your baby’s vaccines unless he is sick or feverish ||Contact the doctor if your newborn isn't gaining weight, wets fewer than six diapers a day or shows little interest in feedings ||
Pumping tips at work

 

Pumping breastmilk can be a challenge but hopefully these tips will help:

  • Ask ahead of time for an arrangement if your company doesn't have a lactation room and you don't have an office.
  • Pump as soon as you get to work. In the morning you'll have more milk and you'll be less likely to put it off once you're involved in a project. Stay on schedule. Pump at regular intervals. Dont skip pumping sessions, and if you must, manually express to keep your supply up.
  • Wear nursing pads every day, so that if you leak during the day it will not be visible to others
  • Make sure that you have the correct size breast flange.
  • Take video of your baby crying and cooing if you have a phone that will do so. This helps to have a pretty fast let-down.
  • Store your breastmilk in a cooler with icepacks so that you do not forget your expressed breastmilk at work.
  • Keep your local lactation consultants number on speed dial for questions and support.
