Pumping tips at work
Pumping breastmilk can be a challenge but hopefully these tips will help:
- Ask ahead of time for an arrangement if your company doesn't have a lactation room and you don't have an office.
- Pump as soon as you get to work. In the morning you'll have more milk and you'll be less likely to put it off once you're involved in a project. Stay on schedule. Pump at regular intervals. Dont skip pumping sessions, and if you must, manually express to keep your supply up.
- Wear nursing pads every day, so that if you leak during the day it will not be visible to others
- Make sure that you have the correct size breast flange.
- Take video of your baby crying and cooing if you have a phone that will do so. This helps to have a pretty fast let-down.
- Store your breastmilk in a cooler with icepacks so that you do not forget your expressed breastmilk at work.
- Keep your local lactation consultants number on speed dial for questions and support.
